The "Heliconias" dance, El Doncello town
Caquetá Department is very young due to the origin of its colonization. This process has generated a lack of identity in dances, music, etc. Because of this, the cultural managers from Caquetá have created an event which has strengthened the cultural research and also allows to create a identity in dances for this region. Due to this, the "Heliconias" dance has been created as a dance proposal, that is called "Jungle flashes". This dance involves the characteristics of Colombian Folklore.
The "Heliconias" or "platanillos" are one of the most striking floral elements in the landscape and in different natural ecosystems in Colombia, especially in the Amazon region; Its fast growing and its common presence specially in warm weather, and the exuberance and beauty of its flower, make this plant distinctive among many others.
This dance was created the current year and was performed in the Departmental Meeting of Dances, that took place in Curillo town, and the Heliconias dance won the second place in the dance contest.
