This event is celebrated once a year in June. In Caqueta's culture, there are popular traditional events that are necessary to preserve because they represent the heritages of cultural regions that have been developed during the colonization process.
This folkloric festival and "Sanjuanero" (a typical dance) beauty pageant is celebrated as an instrument for strengthening the cultural traditions of Caquetá's community; The Folkloric Festival and departmental beauty pageant for peace and culture has its origins in the region called "Tolima Grande" where a lot of colonists came from.
Previously,"San Pedro" fest was celebrated with great joy, joining the community but the beauty pageant was not celebrated all the times. A candidate designated by decree was sent to represent the Department in the national "Bamcuco" (another typical dance) beauty pageant, so a winner from Caquetá was chosen: Norma Arenas.
Since 1995 this festival has had continuity and count on the participation of different towns in the Department.
